Themes

Below is a list of some of the possible future book themes or Unsent Letters themes that we would like to consider. You may, of course, submit any type of letter you’d like. These themes are just suggestions that are most likely to become a themed Unsent Letters book. Also, check out the themes already used and written to in the categories over here ——> They will help you know what has already been accepted, to get a feel for the content we like and what we’re missing too.

~~~***~~~
  • UNSENT LETTERS to FATHERS
Do you have something to say to your father? Is there a man in your life who is like a father to you, and you want to tell him how much he means to you? Was your mother both mother and father to you growing up?
Be sure to put: UNSENT LETTERS – FATHERS
in the subject of the email and follow all other submission guidelines.
  • UNSENT LETTERS to MOTHERS
Good or bad, do you have something you want to say to Mom but you can’t bring yourself to say it to her? Write it in a letter that remains unsent, but share it with us on Unsent Letters. The best letters will go into a special book collection of Unsent Letters to Mothers. Mother letters can be from mothers or to mothers or about mothers from anyone.
Be sure to put: UNSENT LETTERS – MOTHERS
in the subject of the email and follow all other submission guidelines.
Letters to ______________. Remember, the submission must be in the forum of a letter to someone or some thing, and it must have a theme of Patriotism.
Be sure to put: UNSENT LETTERS SUBMISSION – PATRIOTISM
at the top of the cover letter on the submission form.
  • UNSENT LETTERS SUBMISSIONS – ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIPS
We are compiling some of our very best Unsent Letters about abusive relationships for a very special print edition of Unsent Letters, in which a portion of all the proceeds from the sales of Unsent Letters will be donated to shelters for abused children, or other domestic violence prevention programs. This project is still in the very preliminary stages, and we will update with more information about where the donations will go and who we will partner with to make this collection happen.
If you have a letter with an ‘abuse’  angle to it, either to the abuser, the abused, or any other person where abuse is the primary theme of the letter, please submit that letter with the special subject line: Unsent Letters Submissions – Abusive Relationships. While some of these letters will be published on the blog, we are primarily focused on high quality, emotive letters for inclusion in the anthology.
  • UNSENT LETTERS SUBMISSIONS – THE ‘OTHER’ WOMAN / THE ‘OTHER’ MAN
This collection is going to be for letters about cheating – we’re focusing on the ‘other woman’ ‘other man’ in this one, so either we want a letter to the other woman/man or a letter from the other woman/man, or a letter to the partner who is not having the affair. Who writes the letter can be anyone who has a vested interest in writing it: a husband, a wife, a grown child of someone who was cheated on, a casual observer, a friend, or an interested party.
Be sure to put: UNSENT LETTERS SUBMISSION – OTHER WOMAN
at the top of the cover letter on the submission form.
  • UNSENT THANK YOU LETTERS
Who said all Unsent Letters have to be bad, sad, or angry? They don’t! Here is your chance to send a thank you letter to someone you can’t really send to. Maybe it’s the waitress who made your day a little brighter. Maybe you want to thank your husband for loving you all these years. Maybe you want to thank your wife for putting up with you! Maybe you want to thank the stranger on the street corner who was kind to you.
Of course, thank you letters do work both ways, and there can be a lot of sarcasm in a thank you as well, such as, “Thank you for breaking my heart, you scum!” We leave it up to you how you want to word your thank you letter, but we hope you’ll send it to us for consideration!
Be sure to put: UNSENT LETTERS SUBMISSION – THANK YOU
at the top of the cover letter on the submission form.
  • UNSENT LETTERS to PETS
I’m one of those people who loves my pet pretty much like they are part of my family. Over the years, my pets have gotten me through some rough times just by keeping me active, giving me someone to care for and about, something to do, making me laugh–you name it. For those of us who love our furry friends, feathered friends, four-legged friends, and all the other types of pets who show us their unconditional love and gratitude, this Unsent Letters book is for you. Write a letter to your pet!
Be sure to put: UNSENT LETTERS SUBMISSION – PETS
at the top of the cover letter on the submission form.
  • UNSENT LETTERS to CHILDREN
Whether the letter is to your child, someone else’s child, the child you used to be, or the child you hope to have… this Unsent Letters collection is Unsent Letters to Children.
Be sure to put: UNSENT LETTERS SUBMISSION – CHILDREN
at the top of the cover letter on the submission form.
  • HUMOROUS UNSENT LETTERS
Sometimes we just want to laugh, whether it’s a chuckle, a snort, or a sarcastic zinger, use this category to write that funny, poignantly sarcastic, or drippingly dry Unsent Letter on any subject you choose.
Be sure to put: UNSENT LETTERS SUBMISSION – HUMOR
at the top of the cover letter on the submission form.
  • UNSENT HEALTH LETTERS
With this theme, we want to see Unsent Letters to doctors, health care professionals, nurses, caregivers, to our own bodies, to someone we had to take care of, to a person who was sick, is sick, or who has recovered from being sick. Letters written to diseases, illnesses, or medical facilities will work too. “Dear Lupus, I won’t let you have a hold on me…” type of style.
Be sure to put: UNSENT LETTERS SUBMISSIONS – HEALTH
at the top of the cover letter on the submission form.
Of course, you don’t have to submit to one of these categories specifically. You’re always welcome to submit a generic letter or a letter to someone or on a subject not included here. The more unique, compelling and poignant your letter is, the better. If your letter can help someone, teach a lesson, provide answers… something with a bigger appeal, a universal application, we will pay top dollar.
Looking forward to reading your submissions.
Hope you’ll submit! Please spread the word!
